TEXT OF A PRESS CONFERENCE ADDRESSED BY MR. LANRE AKINTILO, MANAGING DIRECTOR/CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF PORTION CONSULT LIMITED TO ANNOUNCE THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF THE COMPANY ON THURSDAY 13TH AUGUST, 2015.
I want to warmly welcome you to this press conference and I must specially thank you for accepting our invitation despite the very short notice. This media briefing is to essentially share with you and members of the public the story of our company, Portion Consult Limited and how far we have gone in the last 10 years of our corporate existence. Our company will be 10 years on Saturday 6TH September, 2015 and we thought it necessary as a business to celebrate this milestone while taking cognizance of the fact that globally and this has been attested to by World Bank/IMF reports that over 80% of small businesses die within the first 5years of existence.

(L-R) Lanre Akintilo, MD/CEO and Tope Ajayi, Executive Director

That we have remained in business for 10years despite the very harsh business environment has been by the grace of Almighty God and the unwavering commitment of our dedicated workforce. Our 10th year anniversary celebration will be week-long activities that will incorporate community service, visit to Heart of God Hospices, a novelty football match with another company within our sector, a Stakeholders’ Forum with our Vendors, a dinner to appreciate our clients, bankers, suppliers, family and friends and a thanksgiving church service. The celebration will also feature award of excellence to staff who have contributed tremendously to the growth of the company in the last decade.
From inception, Portion Consult Limited started as a customer-centric business providing full marketing communications services to our clients but we found a window of opportunity in Print Production and we took it up with a determination to make a mark in the industry having seen the need to do things differently. Our target was to be among the top 10 printing company in Lagos with our first 10 years in terms of volume of business and client base. We set out to serve some of the biggest and best blue-chips and multinationals and we are proud to say, so far, we have been able to achieve substantially the target we set for ourselves. For our printing business, we currently work for such clients as Guinness Nigeria, Diageo, Unilever, Procter & Gamble, GSK, Airtel Nigeria, Old Mutual, LAMATA, Ecobank among other clients. For our Advertising and Public Relations business we currently work for African Movie Academy Awards, Peacegate Oil & Gas, Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe Foundation and Finatrust Microfinance Bank.
It is gratifying to note that from our little beginning 10years ago when this business started as just a dream on paper it has grown in leap and bound contributing to the socio-economic development of Nigeria through employment generation and payment of taxes to governments of Lagos State and the Federal Government through payment of PAYE and Company Tax. We also pay Education Tax and Industrial Training Funds. Portion Consult Limited from one staff 10 years ago currently employ over 40 Nigerians- male and female and our employment policy is strictly based on merit and ability to deliver without any consideration for religion and ethnicity.

(L-R) Chioma Onuoha, Head, clients service, Lanre Akintilo, MD/CEO and Tope Ajayi, Executive Director during the press conference yesterday in Lagos.

As a business we have a strict policy of re-investing in the business and our capacity to service our clients at all time and to this end we made major investment to expand our production line and to train our staff. In the last two years some of our key staff have been trained within and outside Nigeria and we will continue in this trajectory into the future.
In terms of customer service, we are delighted to say that we remain a company of choice to all our clients and we are proud to say that our clients are prouder to associate with us as they have found us a worthy partner and an enabler of their own success. In this regard we have won various awards for quality and service delivery and the chief of the awards we have won was the Allworld Network and Tony Elumelu Foundation award which ranked our company in year 2013 as number 6th of the 50 Fastest Nigerian Small but Growing Businesses (SGBs) called Nigeria50.
Our partnering with blue-chips and Multinationals has helped us in a great way to improve our processes and best practices. As a company, we make sure we comply with all government regulations and standards and we have submitted business to very rigorous operational audit process by Sedex, a global operational and best practices audit system by major multinational companies before any company can be qualified to work with them. Partner Africa, a Kenya based company recently completed the second level Sedex audit for our company.
It is important to note that as a company we take our corporate social responsibility to our host community very seriously and we have worked with the Agbalajobi Estate CDA to improve security and sanitation within the estate in the last 5 years and we will continue to support the community where we do our business.
While we remain committed to continue to act and behave as a responsible corporate citizen we call on the Federal Government and all relevant agencies of government to expedite action on how to make doing business in Nigeria very easy through improved infrastructure, principally power, access to cheaper fund, security and the stability of the exchange rate. We are in the business of price-taking where our clients despite the increasing cost of production and service delivery want us to constantly drop prices. We are constantly sandwiched between the devil and deep blue sea because you don’t want to lose business to competition as a result of price and at the same time profit margins are being wiped off.
In conclusion, we want to reiterate that a macro-economic stability of the country will help small, medium and big businesses plan and we urge the Federal and Lagos State government to do more to make the business environment friendlier.
Once again we want to appreciate you for honouring our invitation and thank you for your kind attention.
